Once a year, on Sweeping Day, Marrowdown sweeps out the Deep Cellars under the town and carries everything nobody has claimed up to the Dry Quay, where anybody can take it home for free.

This year the sweepers came back up early. One of them came up without his boots, and one of them came up without his broom, and Wick the cellar-boy came up running, shouting that the wardrobe in the Unclaimed Room had walked across the floor and eaten a coat rack.

Nobody ever believes Wick. Down in the cold, under a century of forgotten belongings, something hungry is waiting for the next person to open its door.

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ WHAT HAPPENS

A room of lost things with a coat rack bitten clean in half. A shining trail of glue down a long cellar passage, past a dropped umbrella and a tin soldier. A barrel store with only one door, and the handle opens its eyes. A cellar full of salt, and an old lady with a plan. And at the bottom of it all, a vault nobody remembers, where the wardrobe sits on a nest made of a hundred years of lost things.

There are two fights, and the mimic runs away from the first one the moment it goes badly.

๐ŸŽฒ A 47-page family monster hunt for D&D 5e, written for children from 7 to 12 and the grown-up running it โ€” 3 hours, 4 players, level 2.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง MADE FOR A FAMILY TABLE

โ–ช Nobody dies. A hero who drops to 0 hit points is spat out by the mimic, sticky and dazed, misses one turn and gets up again

โ–ช A one-page card for young monster hunters to hold: say what your hero does, throw the big die, add your number

โ–ช Salt is the secret weapon: a handful frees a stuck hero, and a whole sack makes the mimic spit out everything it is holding. Every child at the table can throw salt

โ–ช A note for younger players in every scene: how to give every child a turn, and how to keep it more funny than scary

โ–ช A real question at the end that children love to argue about: open the vault, or seal it with all the townโ€™s lost things inside

WHAT YOU GET

โ–ช 6 scenes, every one written out in full: read-aloud text, what happens if they fail, what to do if they skip it

โ–ช 2 painted battle maps in three versions each โ€” DM, player, and a copy with no grid. 70 px per 5-foot square, so it drops straight into Roll20 or Foundry already aligned

โ–ช 4 ready-to-play 2nd-level characters, finished. They are optional: notes for running it with your own party are included

โ–ช 1 original creature with a full stat block, the Young Mimic, plus the Mimic from the Fifth Edition rules

โ–ช 3 printable handouts and 3 roll tables, including what the furniture is doing in this room

โ–ช 11 secrets, and clues at three different costs: one free, one rolled, one earned

โ–ช 4 people with portraits, each with a voice, a want and a secret

โ–ช Written help for when the party goes sideways, and a section for your first time running a game

โ–ช 7 paintings of the adventure to show your players
